Working as part of a team, the successful candidate will be will be enthusiastic, hardworking and flexible with a genuine desire to rehabilitate and rehome horses. You will ride and train ponies, and care for the horses and ponies at the centre as part of their rehabilitation programme, being responsible for all their training needs until the end goal is achieved. The successful candidate will have a BHS stage 3 or equivalent experience, ideally with experience of Equitation Science or some understanding of learning theory, and up to date methodology.
You will be used to working to a high standard of horse management with a good knowledge of horse health.
You will need to be able to ride young ponies from 11.2hh upwards. You will require practical, hands on experience in training a variety of horses and ponies. You will have previous experience of schooling and handling horses and ponies. Experience in backing, handling and riding young horses including those who have come from unknown backgrounds.
You will also assist with centre promotional and fundraising events. Working with and supporting volunteers is also key to the success of the centre, and providing an excellent customer experience.
Standard hours are 42 hours per week on a locally determined rota, which will include weekend and bank holiday working. However, due to the nature of the work of Blue Cross and this post in particular, it will be necessary to exceed these hours when the work load demands.
