JOBS with NEWC

NEWC is an umbrella organisation for its members and therefore it’s role is purely administrative currently employing only one person as Executive Secretary.

WORKING FOR A WELFARE ORGANISATION

Some organisations employ people to work directly with the horses as well as to run the administrative side of the charity. It is acceptable to write asking about suitable vacancies, but please be sure to include an up-to-date c.v., state the type of job that you are looking for and if you are prepared to re-locate. You should ALWAYS include a stamped, self-addressed envelope

The British Horse Society offers advice on carreers and training.  www.bhs.org

WELFARE OFFICERS

This is not a job that you can do straight from college or university, but is one that requires experience and knowledge. It may be possible to obtain initial employment with one of the larger charities to allow for experience working with sick and/or ill-treated horses. Very few employ full-time Welfare Officers and those that do tend to employ former mounted police officers, because of their knowledge of the law, or older people with many years horse knowledge and experience. Some organisations, especially the smaller ones, use Voluntary Field Officers, but this of course would not provide an income. The RSPCA employ Inspectors but they cover all areas of animal welfare.
