Warning - Grass Cuttings Can Kill !

Lawns grow quickly at this time of year and members of the public are asked not to dispose of grass mowings in fields containing horses, ponies and donkeys.

Fermentation takes place when grass cuttings are left in piles and if eaten by horses and ponies can cause fermentation in an animal's digestive system. The consequent build up of gases could well cause colic which can cause death.

Mrs Herdis Churchill lost three of her donkeys 'Dodo, Ben & Noble' because they ate grass mowings deposited by an unsuspecting member of the public. She says " It was a dreadful time for us and to lose our beloved donkeys through someone else's lack of knowledge was the worst thing that could ever happen."

Horse, pony & donkey owners are advised to check their fields carefully for grass mowings.
